Fifty Mils takes Mexican fine drinking to a whole new level

Mexican Mixology is not only full of great creations and memorable stories, but also triumphs.

Victories like the one that started with a beverage made in a glass made of ice that melts while enjoying the drink and drop by drop disappears watering a plant below; a perfect example that there are new ways to optimize resources without sacrificing the experience. The cocktail was the 360º, one you cannot miss from our new menu.

When Mica Rousseau presented this creation in World Class 2016, probably he did not imagine that it would end among the top 10 best bar tenders in the world, much less that he would become the first Latin American representative to achieve it. Mica and his victory not only represent an important milestone for our bar; it is the perfect close of a first chapter in this confabulation of mixologists and consumers to take Mexican fine drinking to a whole new level.

In order to understand why mixology’s interest has exploded in Mexico, one has to go deep into the kitchen. In words of Karen Nicols, Head of PR, Advocay Culture & Entertainment at Diageo, the interest in fine drinking increases when gastronomy gains momentum and lets its actors create new experiences and take their innovations beyond the doors of their restaurants, setting the environment where the most important is being better and different.

The great Mexican chefs have elevated the nation’s cuisine and have made it known to the world, enticing the people to look for more experiences that conquer their senses and going to the bar, allowing the creativity of several places to implode, turning the attention to the mixologists.

If an event can boast of make significant contributions to this new wave of talent is World Class, that has been around the world during 9 years influencing more than 700 bar tenders who, thanks to this competition, have been able to share, measure and know what’s trending; knowledge they bring back home to catalyze their places of origin.

In words of Karen Nichols, who confesses to enjoy particularly Fifty Mils’ Billy the Kid, World Class is a competition that undoubtedly will keep on promoting new talent and Mexico’s fine drinking development, welcoming with arms wide open the rock stars of mixology.

Mexican cocktails are one of the best alcohol mixes in the world. Well, Mexico is home for different classes of alcoholic beverages with various amounts of alcohol content. It is the land where the Tequila and Margarita, that most of us enjoy, came from. Mezcal is also a top tier alcoholic drink from Mexico. Moreover, there are some alcoholic drinks that do not have Spanish inheritance. These drinks such as Yolixpa, Acachul, Xtabentun, and Pulque have pre-Hispanic background. They were inherited from Native American traditions of Mixology.
